Shrink that Waist Line While You Work

The hype in latest research shows sitting too much during the day can have detrimental effects.

Sitting time is a predictor of weight gain,  even after accounting for calories consumed and leisure time for physical activity such as exercise.

People who use a computer for 11 hours or more a week, or watch TV for 21 hours or more a week, are more likely to be obese than those who use a computer or watch TV for 5 hours a week or less.

Even if you’re fairly physically active, riding your bike to work or hitting the gym four or five days a week — you may still be at risk to the effects of prolonged sitting if the majority of your day is spent behind a desk or on the couch.

Here are two simple steps you can do Now:

Stand when you can. Do your work standing instead of sitting, even 5 minutes count. Walk around your office while you’re on the phone, and communicate with your coworkers in person instead of email.

Get up frequently. Every hour get up from your chair to stretch, march in place or take a quick stroll outside. Research shows that the larger the number of disruption in sitting are associated with better metabolic profiles, including waist circumference and glucose metabolism.

So, here is my Simple take away. Because small changes can lead to Big health gains:

Just MOVE every hour for a smaller waist line and a healthier life!
